Letter from Adeline Vaughan Williams to Diana Awdry

Letter No.:
Tuesday [28th August 1934]

The White Gates,
Westcott Road,

My dear Diana

I know that Uncle R is going to write to you - He is still hopeful about getting to Gloucester.1 We shall know more definitely tomorrow. The situation has changed for the surgeon opened up the ancle2 again on Sunday & the wound is not allowed to heal yet. To me it seems an impossibility - or nearly that - that he should be travelling and standing in a week’s time. Your suggestion of fetching him was perfect - but it is all too uncertain. What was definitely certain was that you would have to come the day before & sleep here.
But anyhow I would see that he went by road if that was best. I can’t believe he ought to go tho’ I want him to so much.

1. For the Three Choirs Festival, which took place from 2 to 7 September in Gloucester in 1934.
