Westcott Road,

Dear Joyce

Your stocks are a great delight to me - a stronger scent now that they have had more sun & what a wonderful scent it is - and I admire the kind & colour so much.
“Bruno”1 made a very nice impression on us. Your flowers were a happy start.
I am facing the din & going up to Queens Hall this evening as there is no rehearsal this morning wh I would have preferred.2 There was a full rehearsal3 at Covent Garden4 last evening - so what the balance will be tonight R cannot guess. Love from us

1.  Margaret Brown, recently married to Cedric Thorpe Davie.
2. AVW was not in good health and preferred to attend a rehearsal rather than a first performance.
3.  For Flourish for a Coronation, Catalogue of Works 1937/1, first performed that evening at the Queen's Hall by the Philharmonic Choir and the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Thomas Beecham.
4. Presumably at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
