Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Maud Karpeles

Letter No.:
Wed [5th September 1934]

The White Gates,
Westcott Road,

Dear Maud

Its awful - But there is just a chance I shall not be able to come on the 16th - I had to have the wretched thing opened up again about a week ago & though all goes v. well, yet he won’t promise any date at which I shall be moveable - tho’ personally I think it is quite safe that I shall be well.
Now shall I write a screed for you to read if I’m not there - or is that no use? and any way what am I to write about - do help me - I’ve not an idea in my head - don’t say “what you like” that’s no use to me.
