Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Adrian Boult (BBC)

Letter No.: VWL1429

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

Aug 15 [1940]

Dear Adrian

Many thanks for your letter.
I know Toveys death was announced over the wireless – but of course I referred to notice in the musical programmes1
As far as I remember both Elgar & Delius had memorial concerts and you did not wait for their birthdays.
I do realize that you have to be “particularly careful” over your programmes
Is this why you deliver symphonies by Gounod and unknown works by Svendsen to mention only a few names?
Yrs
