Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Geoffrey Bush

Letter No.: VWL1452

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

Dec 27th [1938]

Dear Bush

I was very glad to have your letter & to hear that all goes well with you at Oxford.
I think you are right not to give music the first place just at present as you want to read for another degree. I know how absorbing the music at Oxford can be – and without actually practising it very much you will learn a lot about it – new points of view and so on & there are a lot of 1st rate musicians in Oxford.
You have a great ancestry to live up to – for as you doubtless know, the first Nettleship Scholar was Donald Tovey.
Yours sincerely

R. Vaughan Williams
