Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to William Rothenstein
The White Gates,
Dorking.
Dear Rothenstein
How stupid of me - as you probably guessed - I wrote to you and to Gleadowe1 & put them in the wrong envelopes - & he, I suppose, has got yours.
Thank you so much for your letter. I gather that you know nothing of the man I mentioned.
Yours sincerely
R. Vaughan Williams
1. Reginald Gleadowe, artist and silver designer, Slade Professor of Fine Art, Oxford University 1928-33, and at this time Admiralty representative on the War Artists Committee. See Who was Who 1941-50, p.440.

Date based on an assumption that it is wartime (paper not headed) and that the last paragraph is to do with a refugee.
