Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Ursula Wood

Letter No.:
[later part of 1948]

My Dear

I think you had better have these -  I do not think I want to go - but you might - if not give them away. They are doing the hot sausages. 1

1.  Presumably enclosing tickets for a concert. The ‘hot sausages’ was the nickname for a theme written for the film Flemish Farm but not eventually used - instead it became the opening of the second movement of the sixth symphony. See Roy Douglas, Working with Vaughan Williams,  p. 286. The concert presumably included one of the many performances of the symphony which took place following its first performance on 21st April 1948 (see Douglas, ibid., p. 303).
