Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to John Ireland

Letter No.:
VWL2027
Feb 7 1946

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

Dear John

That is a fine work - one of your best - & it is the best [of] you all the way through - so many works by most composers only transcend themselves & thereby become their real selves in patches - but this seems to me to be your real self all through.1
I think they played it well - & the audience were evidently impressed
Yrs

R. Vaughan Williams
