9th January 1952

The White Gates,
Dorking,
Surrey.

My Dear Bessie

I should so much like to see you one day when you are coming to Dorking.
I am so sorry to hear you have been ill.
I went to “Billy Budd” twice1 and also listened to it, and I am still quite unmoved by it, though I recognise its great skill.
Love from

Ralph
