Eichhorn Strasse 6.II

[3] March 1898

Dear R.A.G.

Please come as soon as you can. My wife and I want you to come and stay here till you find something as there is a small room in the house of which the present owner is away so that it is empty – I hope you got our wire. I’m awfully keen to hear about your heart – why not come today? or if not tomorrow.1
Yours always

R. Vaughan Williams

P.S. I didn’t know you were in Germany

1. René Gatty was one of a musical Yorkshire family and brother of the composer Nicholas Gatty. René suffered indifferent health. AVW copied out his poems and acted as a sort of London agent on his behalf, sending them to the periodicals. René also wrote several libretti for works by his brother Nicholas.
