Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Roy Douglas

Letter No.:
[August 10 1955]

10, Hanover Terrace, N.W.1.

Dear Roy

Thank you for sending the splendid arrangement so promptly[?] The stage directions will be typed on the right hand pages by Ursula & then I will send it to the OUP. With you permission I will also send the full score & they can make fair copies of the new bits by one of the house copyists.1
I will send you the symph as soon as I get home at the beginning of October – There is no date fixed – no certainty of a performance – at any rate I imagine not before the spring
It is not a secret – but I think we had better not proclaim it from the house-tops yet2

1. Douglas had prepared the scores of On Christmas Night.
2. Symphony no.8
