Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Alan Frank (OUP)
From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.
Dear Frank,
Here is the score of the symphony for your kind, safe-keeping until Roy asks for it. It is dedicated to John Barbirolli, therefore he must have first performance, if and when he wants it. I suppose he has made up his programmes for the season more or less; anyway, I do not think the score and parts could possibly be ready for him till the new year.1
I am dealing with the violin sonata. I think it is my bad writing much more than Gus, that is responsible for the mistakes.2
