[21 October 1957]

Dearest Michael & Eslyn,

You are angels to ask us on Monday – but Ralph feels that with so much travelling in the two days, he’d rather have less too-ing & fro-ing – so I suggest that you come to us early, & we have time for a gossip, & an early lunch, & catch the 2 o’clock train home.  Would that be right for you?1
You can hear some of the brass band festival on the light on Saturday evening.2
Ralph is very well after all the festivities – as you will see.
Love from us both

Ursula.

1.  Monday 28 October, the day after the Hallé birthday concert.
2.  VW spent the whole of Saturday 26 October (not 27 as in R.V.W.: a biography, p.385) at the Brass Band Championships where his Variations for Brass Band (Catalogue of Works 1957/2) was the test piece.  Part of the event was broadcast on the BBC Light Programme.
