[?May 1944]

Dear Adrian
I want to thank you and your merry men (and women) for a fine performance. I believe you rang up some time about the tempo of the slow movement – it seemed to me just right
Thankyou
Yrs RVW

1. Undated letter on wartime paper, with a note in Boult’s hand ‘F minor Symphony: Autumn 1944’; the letter concerns Symphony 4, which Boult conducted on 12 May 1944 for a broadcast performance with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall; presumably this is the performance to which VW refers, so Boult’s annotation of ‘autumn’ may be inaccurate.
