Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Stanley Godman

Letter No.:
August 19th 1958.

Dear Mr Godman,

Thank you for your kind letter of appreciation. I was interested in the article on Quirke. I read his reminiscences when they came out, and a few years later I met his brother who told me that it was he, the brother, who played under Richter, and not W. M. Quirke. In fact, I understand that he applied a good many of his brother’s reminiscences to himself! But he was a fine teacher, and I learned a lot from him.
Yours sincerely,
R Vaughan Williams1
