Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Edward J. Dent

Letter No.: VWL402

13 Cheyne Walk
Chelsea, S.W.

May 14th [1914]

Dear Dent

Thank you very much for your letter – Our plans remain uncertain – so you will probably want to let your house to some one else during May-week & must not think about us. If however we can come up then (when you suggest), I shall write to you again to see if the house is still free. I think it would suit us admirably as my wife is quite able to walk – & we wd bring a servant of our own.1
I hope the Fairy Queen prospers2 – it will be a great event in the annals of English music.
Yrs

R. Vaughan Williams

1. The VWs were certainly at 10 Madingley Road  Cambridge the following July – see VWL403.
2. Apparently this performance was abandoned due to the war – see Kings College Cambridge archives, EJD/2/6/1/1; the performance eventually took place in 1920.
