Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Christopher le Fleming

Dear Le Fleming

Nos 3, 9, 10, 11, 13 & 17 are 1st rate.
No  1.  Good but not suitable for children
No  2  1st part v. good but too long - I shd have liked to end at the end of the Blake
No  5.  I like it (not the words - I hope no healthy children will want to sing those words).  The music here & elsewhere rather spoilt for me by too much insistence on those fashionable added sixths & 9ths out of the key.
No  8.  Good tune - but I don't like the sophisticated end
No. 14.  I hope I'm not a pedant, but I can't hear those 8ves between the extreme parts, last bar note chord of line 1 of 1stnote chord of line 2.
Thank you so much for sending them - will any of the 2 numbers be published separately?  I think many people wd like to do separate numbers who wd not want to do the whole work.
My best regards to your Phyllis.
Yrs
