Dear Joan
The BBC are probably going to ask me to be musical adviser on their new book.  Milford approves.  If I take it on I shall have to ask Martin & Mr Dearmer to use my own judgement in all cases where S.O.P.1 is concerned – I shall as a matter of fact consult you all frequently – but I think I must have that freedom.
However the other business – I don’t know what to do or to say.
I don’t think people realize how few people I am in contact with – especially in the church, e.g. I don’t even know who the Bishop of Ipswich is – I didn’t even know there was one!
I can only think of writing to Humphrey Milford.
