Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Joan Shaw

Letter No.:
June 15th 1955.

From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1

My dear Joan,

I had started some explorations but was told I was too late, so this must have come from pure merit, without any wire pulling.  I know that neither you nor I care about honours1, but after all it is the only way in which thousands of people can express their affection and admiration for a well beloved man.
Love from
Ralph & Ursula.2
