Letter No.: VWL4391

13 Cheyne Walk,
Chelsea, S.W.

Dear Sir
In answer to your letter – I should not feel justified in bceoming a patron of your admirable scheme unless I cd see my way to support it actively & as I am not locally connected with Hampstead & have many other calls from musicians I feel I cannot do any more.
Have you considered applying for a grant to the ‘committee for music in war-time’ 13 Princes Gate S.W.?1
Yours faithfully
R. Vaughan Williams

1, Claud Powell was attempting ‘to form a first class full professional orchestra’, the Claud Powell Orchestra, in Hampstead. It had some success and Powell later founded the more successful Guildford Symphony Orchestra.
