Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Frank Howes

Letter No.:
July 18 [late 1930s]

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,

Dear Howes
I send on Miss Gilchrist's1 screed with a few notes of my own.
Also P.G. whole2 quotation which confirms what we F.S.3 collectors already know that the flat penultimate 7th is natural to the folk and disposes of all the "Musica Ficta" nonsense which editors of early Scottish Psalters talk

P.S. I think this quotation ought to go into the Journal

1. Anne Geddes Gilchrist, the folksong collector.
2. 'P.G.' identified as Percy Grainger.
3. Folk song
