Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Maud Karpeles

Letter No.: VWL4904

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

Dec 15 [1936]

Dear Maud
I like D. W setting1 – very nice in a mild way & ought to sound good (rather reminds me of Holst) – He does not say what the accompanying parts are – strings I suppose.
Your “apologie” was very sad reading [?] I did not after all resign – because I was told that it wd make a commotion which I did not want to do.2
Now I feel, perhaps, inclined to stick on & fight a bit more – but I don’t know.
I had news of you from Imogen3 who tells me you are better – I do hope so.
Love from
RVW
