Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Maud Karpeles

Letter No.:

Xmas Day [late 1940s?]

The White Gates
Dorking

My dear Maud
Thankyou for the present - especially for the spirit in which it was sent (as the man said about the brandy-cherries) - I only minded your suggestion that Switzerland was more civilized than England because you could get better dinners & drink wine there!
You must certainly do F.S. for the Oxf: Hist - if only to counteract (I forget his name)1
Let us meet soon
Love
RVW

1. VW agreed that Karpeles should write the section on 'Folk Song' for the New Oxford History of Music, published from 1954.
