Letter No.: VWL4966

The White Gates,
Dorking, SURREY,

23rd November, 1949.

Dear Sylvia
It was a great pleasure to hear from you once again after so many years.
I do not arrange the orchestra now but l will send your name in to the organiser telling him all about you; but I rather fear he is already deeply involved with other players whom we cannot very well dismiss from their positions; but if you are really willing to come and play “ripieno” in the “Passion” I expect he could fit you in.
The only question is one of expenses, becuase the return fare from Manchester would come to a good bit, in fact it would more that eat up the modest fee we are able to afford.
Yrs RVW

(R. Vaughan Williams).
Miss Sylvia Spencer,
8, Moorfield Road,
Manchester 20.
