Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Sylvia Spencer

Letter No.:
23rd November, 1949.

The White Gates,
Dorking, SURREY,

Dear Sylvia
It was a great pleasure to hear from you once again after so many years.
I do not arrange the orchestra now but l will send your name in to the organiser telling him all about you; but I rather fear he is already deeply involved with other players whom we cannot very well dismiss from their positions; but if you are really willing to come and play "ripieno" in the "Passion" I expect he could fit you in.
The only question is one of expenses, becuase the return fare from Manchester would come to a good bit, in fact it would more that eat up the modest fee we are able to afford.

(R. Vaughan Williams).
Miss Sylvia Spencer,
8, Moorfield Road,
Manchester 20.
