[30 July 1929]

Dear Sir

In reply to your letter of the 25th July (PM/WWT)
I have no idea how long the songs take – probably Mr Widdop1 knows.  The “Song of the Road” shd be one (probably the last) of the group & I suggest that Mr Widdop be asked to choose 1 or 2 of the others to complete the allotted time2
Yrs faithfully

R Vaughan Williams

1. Walter Widdop (1892-1949), English tenor.
2. VW had been asked to suggest songs from Hugh the Drover (Catalogue of Works 1924/2) for performance by Widdop in a Promenade concert.
