Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Rutland Boughton

Letter No.:
January 10 [1930]

The White Gates,
Westcott Road,

Dear Boughton

I want to tell you that I admired your 3 Hardy Songs very much and especially the middle one.  I rather believe that that kind of music growing out of those kinds of words is what will go down to future generations as the best type of our generation and country.  Probably a frenchman or German would hate them & I rather hope he would.

  Yrs very sincerely
  R Vaughan Williams
