Letter No.:

Westcott Road,

Dear Dr Ellingford

I remember you quite well of course - & I think that when you were very young you did me the honour to deputise for me at the church in South Lambeth where I was trying with very little success to play the organ!  That must have been in 1896 or 7!  It is very nice of you to play my tune - I wish I cd hear you.  I enclose your queries answered as far as I can.1
Yrs sincerely

R. Vaughan Williams

1. Ellingford was planning to pay VW’s Prelude and Fugue in C minor, Catalogue of Works 1930/4 in a recital at St George’s Hall, Liverpool, where he was organist and had written to VW asking about some readings in the published edition.  He acknowledged this letter on 2nd December as being ‘of some weeks ago’. Ellingford had been at the Royal College of Music with VW.
