Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Edward J. Dent
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.
Dear Dent
I’m sorry to worry you - but cd you tell me exactly when I shall be wanted at Cambridge.
I see I have to be there at 10.0 on the 28th - & again at 2.0 - & I presume that will go on till about 5.0 - and then am I wanted again on Friday.
You know your university give no long notices of these things and even the Diletantes of Dorking occasionally have engagements. At present I have made provisional engagements for 9.30 pm on the 28th & 5.0 pm on the 29th - must I cancel these?
Yrs
R. Vaughan Williams

1931 was the only year in this period when May 21 was Thursday - the writing paper would be wrong for the other possibility (1936).
