Letter No. VWL124

Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Arnold Barter

Letter No.: VWL124

13 Cheyne Walk
Chelsea, S.W.

[1909]

Dear Sir1

Thank you very much for your kind and appreciative letter; I must thank you very much for all the trouble you took to secure a good rendering of my work.
It is most gratifying to hear that your choir enjoyed working on it.
Yrs very truly

R. Vaughan Williams

 1. Apparently from the use of ‘Dear Sir’ this letter precedes VWL125 (which has ‘Dear Mr Barter’) and therefore must refer to a performance by the Bristol Philharmonic Society of a work by VW previous to that of A Sea Symphony in April 1911.  Barter directed a  performance of Toward the Unknown Region in 1909 (see British Library Add MS 1714/1/4, f. 65).
