Dear Foss

(i) Riders.
This is rather awkward – I took it for granted, as I always do with all publishers, that the publisher will make sure that all is right.  You have always done so before.1
(ii)  Running Set.2  This belongs to the EFDS3 – So I think I had better deal with it – will you ask the BBC to apply to me.

1. VW had received a communication from the League of British Dramatists pointing out that permission for the use of J.M. Synge’s text in Riders to the Sea, Catalogue of Works 1936/6, had not been cleared with the copyright holder. A complex correspondence between Oxford University Press and the Synge’s representatives, also involving the Society of Authors, ensued before the matter was finally settled.
