Dear Dr Vaughan Williams

I send you your originals and copies of the carols that have reached me this morning:-
No. 1. God rest you merry
       2. As Joseph was a walking
       3. Mummers Carol

God rest you merry  As copyist did not leave page 3 blank for insertion of words of verses 3-4-5-6, I have cut up ms to arrange this and will have words typed or pasted on page 3.
As Joseph was a walking  I cannot find melody or words of this in Oxford Carol, Book, from where is it taken?  Query also are some only of the verses being used?

O.C.B. (music edition) p.138 Cherry tree Carol part 2 3rd tune (p.139) vv.11-15 (to be renumbered 1-5)

I have, when in Oxford, yesterday, left a list of the carols with Mr Gosselin to check up for me whether permissions have to be obtained for any that come from Oxford Carol Book.  Will you let me have back to Soho Square your originals and the copies when you have checked same.
Yours sincerely

Norman Peterkin

I return copies herewith – I have marked corrections in margin so that they may be certainly incorporated in other copies
