Dear Foss

I sent the contract to P.R.S. at their request before I got your letter – Here is their reply.
Though you are no longer officially connected with this business – Would you be so kind as to write to Ortus Films – You see the P.R.S. suggest my writing – but it wd come much better from you.
Yrs

R. Vaughan Williams

1. The Secretary of the Performing Right Society had written to say that VW’s contract with Ortus Films for writing the music to 49th Parallel, Catalogue of Works 1940/3, was a service contract and that as a result VW did not retain the performing right to the music which was the property of the company from the moment of its creation. The Society therefore could not collect performing fees on his behalf.
