The White Gates,
Dorking, Surrey.

24th May, 1950

Dear Randolph

I have heard a rumour that the National Trust are cutting down trees rather freely in the Leith Hill woods.  Do you think they are overdoing it?  I should be glad of your opinion on this matter.1
According to my Deed of Gift there is a stipulation that no trees should be cut except to improve the amenities and in the interests of good forestry.
Yours

R.V.W.

Sir R. L. Wedgwood, Bart.

1. Wedgwood had become the tenant of the National Trust at Leith Hill Place, following VW’s gift of the estate to the Trust in 1944.
