Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Alan Frank (OUP)

Letter No.: VWL3065

From R. Vaughan Williams,
10, Hanover Terrace,
Regents Park,
London, N.W.1.

February 27th 1955.

Dear Frank,1

By all means have Denis Wright: but I want to know exactly what he means to do. Does he mean to transpose it all up a fourth? Which will I think mean altering some of the instrumental passages. Or does he mean to keep the original key and alter those very characteristic passages from BB flat to FF, which will take away a lot of the character of the music.2
