Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Mary Glasgow

Letter No.: VWL3162

The White Gates,
Dorking,

10th August, 1949.

Dear Miss Glasgow,

Thank you very much for your kind and sympathetic letter, but I think you rather miss the point.
If I am to go off the Council before my allotted time it must be also before this question of the Cambridge performance comes before the Council. Otherwise I may be found voting myself money, which would cause a scandal!1
Yours sincerely,

R. Vaughan Williams

(R. Vaughan Williams).

Miss Glasgow,
Secretary General,
Arts Council of Great Britain.

1.  VW was due to retire in any case on 31 December. See VWL1970. The Arts Council was asked to support a performance of Pilgrim’s Progress.
