Dear Martin,

I fear I am very bad on dates. The oboe concerto was written for Leon Goossens, and was to have been performed at the series of Proms,¹ which were cancelled owing to the war. The tuba concerto is dedicated to the L.S.O.² and was first performed at one of their jubilee concerts in 1954 (?) and played by Philip Catalinet.
