Thank you so much for your letter, and you know how I value your appreciation.We were desolated not to be there.1  I hear that John2 was well enough to be able to conduct at the last concert.  I listened in to the broadcast of your symphony3 – a fine performance of a fine work.

3. The broadcast of the performance of Rubbra's Sixth Symphony, performed at Cheltenham Festival on 17 July, conducted by Barbirolli.
