Thank you & Evelyn warmly for your splendid letter & telegram – I wish I cd have heard you do my [word missing].1
I knew you & your orchestra wd make it (and everything else) sound fine.  I am glad the Flourish is all right – we are coming on 27th if we may.2

1.  Good wishes for VW’s 85th birthday, two days before.  Check which VW work was performed on 16 Oct in addition to the Flourish.  The Hallé’s all VW birthday concert was on 28 October.
2.  Flourish for Glorious John, Catalogue of Works 1957/3, which had been first performed at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester, on 16 October.  According to UVW the VWs went to Manchester on 28 October.- see R.V.W.: a biography, p.385.
