Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Joan Shaw

Letter No.:
Jan 9 [ca 1940]

My Dear Joan
I will not give Martin a "lesson" - but as an old friend I should feel honoured if he liked to consult me on his work - though it seems absurd when his technical equipment makes me feel an amateur - & he never has asked me to criticize anything of his - that is the difficulty - so when I suggested that I should ask him to look through something of mine & if in return I can make any suggestions on any of his work I will shall be proud to do so.
What do you think to that?

P.S.  I should much like news of the family.
Diccon?1 & the little daughter2 must be nearly grown up by now
