Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to an unidentified correspondent (probably Artur Rodzinski)

Letter No.: VWL5223

From R. Vaughan Williams,
The White Gates,
Westcott Road,
Dorking.

May 18 [1935]

Dear Sir1
Thank you very much for your kind letter.
Unfortunately there is only one score and set of parts of my new symphony2 and as these will be wanted for performances in Europe I fear at present they cannot be spared.
If you visit England this Summer I shall be happy to suggest some works of contemporary English composers which you may find interesting.
Yours faithfully

R Vaughan Williams

1.  The letter is to a correspondent in the USA and it has been suggested that it may be to Artur Rodzinski, who had been appointed Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra in 1933. He conducted the American premiere of VW’s fourth symphony on December 19, 1935.
